A brief description of the content of the book:
We have written this book to help you answer some questions. For example, the scientific literature is so extensive that it is impossible to read everything relevant to a scientific subject. Almost all of you at some time or other rely on review articles to keep you up to date. Now it is your turn to write a review article on a subject, but how do you go about it? At national or international meetings, poster displays are becoming increasingly common. As attendance at meetings increases, more researchers want to present their research and there is limited time and space for oral presentations. The poster presentation is an ideal solution to reach many people, but how do you go about preparing one? Your article is ready for submission to the journal; the worst is over and you are rightly proud to communicate your findings to the rest of the world. Now the covering letter. Have you ever thought that a covering letter offers you the opportunity to impress the editor right from the start? But how do you write such a letter? You have been asked to write an abstract for a conference. What is the difference between an abstract for a paper and one for a conference? In Chapters 1 to 3 we concentrate on how to make your writing reader-friendly and effective. We have provided some exercises and answers. Chapter 4 is dedicated to review articles and Chapter 5 to poster presentations. Chapter 6 will give you some advice on writing various types of letters and in Chapter 7 we provide tips on creating a CV. Finally in Chapter 8 you will find information on how to write various types of abstracts.
